Wedding favor gifts correspond to a long tradition of wedding gifts. The association of sharing gifts on weddings is probably as ancient a theme as the idea of wedding itself. The significance of sharing gifts rests in the fact that they are like tokens of appreciation from one to everyone for being a part of this special ceremony. Wedding favor gifts assumed the form of a tradition in medieval Europe when in 12th century Europe a special gift box called bonbonneire was shared between aristocracy as a gesture of wealth and health. The most amazing part of this history is that the precious stone crafted bonbonneires traditionally housed grains of sugar and special confectioneries (so sweet). The custom of confectioneries and sugar as a gift in fact slowly helped the general people to embrace the tradition of wedding favor (people realized that noblemen and common men alike liked sweet sugar). But since, sugar became a common tradition, so they were gradually replaced by almonds as wedding favor gifts. This was the tradition in 13th century Europe, and gradually the almonds became sugarcoated as a reminiscent of the earlier tradition of exchanging sweetness in bonbonneires. The sugar coated almonds came to be known as confetti. The tradition in 14th century Europe was to wrap 5 sugar-coated almonds in a precious wrapper and give them as gifts (favors) to the guests. The guests at the reception accepted the gifts as the symbols of fertility (femininity), longevity, health, wealth and happiness. The bitter sweetness of confetti was accepted as the symbolism of the bittersweet flavors of wedded life. Isn’t it these flavors of life, that add color to the life?

Favor gifts can be either bridal shower favors or wedding reception favors, or both. Bridal showers and receptions are important aspects of a wedlock, and what best way to express the importance than by sharing gifts with others. During bridal showers it is more like a public relations exercise, trying to win the heart of in-laws and relatives, and the same extends to reception favors as well. The only important aspect that must be noted being that this is not a professional PR exercise, it is a personal one; you won’t be able to win it if it is devoid of the personal touch of your heart.

While finalizing the wedding favor gifts, it is mandatory to pay special attention to the children. Children are harbingers of God, they have the bright joy in their eyes that remind you of heaven. They bless an occasion by their presence, let the occasion bless them back when you are deciding the gifts for children. In addition, it is important to remember that children are critical judges of the presents they receive and they do not take money into consideration. All they will judge you, will be about the love and attention that is reflected in your wedding favor gift. They will judge you by the color of your gift.

The common wedding favor gift motifs are those that symbolize values like beauty, elegance, grace, warmth and happiness. They represent the beautiful life of the newlywed couple. The motifs are various and beautiful like butterflies, heart shapes, the bridal gown, snowflake patterns and everything else that brings happiness to the heart. The bridal shower gifts also follow similar motif patterns.
The bridesmaid, groomsmen, parents and other relatives deserve special attention while selecting wedding favor gifts. Do not forget the ring bearers and the flower-maid too. They are special people who are participating in the ceremony and they must be made to feel special as a sign of your thankfulness to them. Personalized wedding favors can be of much assistance in this respect. While deciding the personalized gifts you have to think of every one there separately and as a special person.

Wedding favor gifts add color to the lives of those that receive them and they are a means to share the colors in your mind with everyone whom you love.
